Accessibility

Stonnington Library and Information Service is committed to making our libraries accessible for all. We provide a range of accessible services and facilities so that all community members can enjoy our libraries, programs and events.

Access at Stonnington Library programs and events

If you or your guests have accessibility requirements to attend an event, please email libraryevents@stonnington.vic.gov.au or call 03 8290 8002 during standard business hours (9am – 5pm, Monday – Friday).

Communication access

We have been awarded the Communication Access Symbol.

This symbol recognises that:

  • our staff have positive and welcoming attitudes towards all customers
  • people with communication difficulties will be given time to get their message across
  • important written information is available in different formats
  • communication boards are available on request
  • we provide a communication friendly phone service and our staff are confident with using the National Relay Service.

Wheelchair access

Our libraries have ramp access. Lifts provide access to meeting rooms where library events are held.

Stonnington History Centre: A ramp is available from the north end of the Malvern Library carpark, along the edge of the garden or via the driveway to the east of Malvern Library. Access to the Centre is by a few steps to the front door. Entry to a side door with no steps can be organised by prior arrangement.

Accessible toilets

We have one gender neutral accessible toilet at each of our locations.

Companion card

We support and accept the Companion card. Companions will receive free entry on presentation of a Companion card. Please book your ticket online and present the Companion Card at the event for your companion to gain entry.

Service animals

Trained guide, hearing and any other registered assistance dogs are welcome at our events.
